Sherwin Summit- Sherwin Summit offers an expansive view of Owens Valley, 3,000 ft (925 m) below. During the mid-1800s, Owens Valley was home to several thousand Paiute, farming thrived, ranching communities developed, and a military outpost existed. With the export of water to Los Angeles, by the 1930s the farms and ranches were greatly reduced. Still home to Paiute, ranchers, and farmers, the valley survives as a destination for tourists in pursuit of trophy trout, outdoor recreation, wide-open space, dramatic natural landscapes, and a taste of the Wild West. |
