Email Infrastructure

Incoming messages

  1. Sender composes email message and hits "send".
  2. Message is transferred via the Internet to sender's Email Service Provider.
  3. Virus/spam check by sender's provider's servers. (Hopefully - unfortunately, not all email service providers do this.)
  4. Assuming the message passes the virus/spam tests, it is passed via the Internet from the sender's Email Service Provider to servers run by Cernio, Far Western's Email Service Provider.
  5. Virus/spam check by Cernio's email servers.
  6. Assuming the message passes the virus/spam tests, it is passed via the Internet from Cernio's email servers to Far Western's internal email server.
    • If Far Western's internal email server is unreachable, perhaps due to a power outage or DSL service disruption, Cernio's email servers will keep attempting to deliver the message until delivery is successful or 5 days has elapsed.
    • If delivery is unsuccessful after 4 hours, Cernio's email servers will warn the sender and will continue to attempt delivery.
    • If delivery is unsuccessful after 5 days, Cernio's email servers will notify the sender that delivery failed.
  7. Virus/spam check by Far Western's internal email server.
  8. Recipient at Far Western receives message when he/she checks his/her email from Far Western's internal email server.
