Private Development

In 2004 and 2005, Far Western conducted data recovery excavations at nine 1870s Chinese colliers' camps, and carried out extensive excavations at the Alder Hill prehistoric basalt quarry at Truckee, California, for a proposed housing development and golf course. The Overseas Chinese camps had some of the best-preserved cooking hearths and charcoal-making features recovered so far in the Tahoe Sierra. Excavations at the Alder Hill quarry yielded evidence of prehistoric use going back several thousand years.
